nima Wales

On November 23rd colleague met to learn and discuss the Digital Strategy for Wales and its impact on the Built Environment at Blake Morgans offices in Cardiff, where nima was launched.

The UK BIM Alliance has adopted a new name, nima, and a new approach, putting the emphasis on information management – rather than BIM – and its importance to as wide an audience as possible.

Rhys Lewis, nima Wales & Director of Revizto explained that nima is the Greek for thread, alluding to Dame Judith Hackitt’s golden thread of information. The name is not an abbreviation. According to nima, the name was selected “to help give the volunteer-led organisation an identity, sense of purpose and a set of behaviours that are better aligned with current and anticipated future UK thinking about digital working in the built and managed environment”.

Dan Rossiter, nima Wales talked us through the UK BIM Framework and Standards, and we heard from Michael Groves, Welsh Government about the Digital Strategy for Wales. An excellent example of all this in practical terms was given by CEW’s Digital Construction Award winner 2022 Fitzalan High School by Russell Baker, Kier & Julie Homes from Cardiff Council.
