CIWEM Adapting to Climate Change – from Policy to Practice

08 Dec
Thursday 8th December 2016
5:30pm - 7:00pm
N4.07 Prince Philip Lecture Theatre, Cardiff University, Queens Building South, CF24 3AA
Free

Speaker: Professor Jim Poole

In 2002, Jim was appointed as a Visiting Professor in Sustainable Development at Cardiff University. He is particularly interested in how people from different backgrounds can work together effectively. Such an approach is well suited to climate adaptation. Our experience already shows that we must address a wide range of inter-dependencies if, collectively, we are to adapt successfully.

In this presentation he will describe the overall adaptation framework in Wales “from policy to practice”, explaining how Welsh and UK legislation and processes interact, and how we can learn from colleagues elsewhere in the UK, and beyond. Based on his wide experience, he will give his personal views on the steps and approaches we should take if we are to achieve action on the ground at a pace that matches the rising climate challenges that we face.

Jim has been working full time on climate change over the last ten years, initially for Environment Agency Wales and more recently for Natural Resources Wales. From 2013 to 2016 he chaired the Adaptation Subgroup of the former Climate Change Commission for Wales. Over that time he has been involved with all aspects of the adaptation agenda from understanding the science, drafting legislation and setting policies to implementing those policies and communicating with a wide variety of audiences.

There is no need to book for this event.
Refreshments provided from 5.30pm.   The presentation will start at 6pm (non-members welcome),
