Top Tips for A Successful Award Entry

The Constructing Excellence in Wales awards bring together the industry and celebrate the best of the region. These Awards are firmly established as a high point in the Welsh construction calendar, each year commanding the attention of industry professionals from across Wales and beyond.

Entering awards can have huge benefits for businesses. Winning an award, or even making it onto the shortlist, can place you in a positive position to win further work and secure a competitive edge. Writing an award entry isn't always easy so we have come up with our top tips on how to make your submission stand out.

  1. ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME
Our judges will see over 100 entries so will be able to tell if you've rushed your submission.

  2. READ THE ENTRY CRITERIA/GUIDELINES
Read through the entry criteria carefully so that you are clear on what the judges will be requiring for each category.  Are you entering your company/project into the right category? Read through all the entry criteria and highlight those categories that are a good fit.

  3. READ THE ENTRY FORM CAREFULLY
Before writing any of your submission, check the character count. The South West Built Environment Awards submissions include spaces in its character count – so keep that in mind when writing your entry!

  4. KEEP THE MESSAGES SIMPLE & CLEAR
Keep the message simple and clear – do not make the submission too complicated.  More words do not necessarily mean a superior submission.

  5. PROVIDE EVIDENCE
Ensure that you provide the key data requested. Judges will seek hard evidence and data to back up the claims within the written submission.

  6. USE IMAGES
Images are an important part of your entry. Judges want to see the before and after shots as well as the work in progress so that they have visual aids for the entire submission/project progress.

  7. SHARE WITH COLLEAGUES
Ask other people to read the draft and provide feedback. There is always room for improvement and getting it checked will also ensure that there are no mistakes.

Submissions should relate to either ongoing work or any project or example of organisational change that was completed in the 12 months prior to 1st January 2019.
