Energy training

The Environment Study Centre has launched an on-line qualification in energy efficiency for traditional buildings

Welsh company, The Environment Study Centre have launched their new on-line course for professionals wanting to gain a qualification in dealing with the retrofitting of older and traditional buildings.

Professor John Edwards developed the course in conjunction with the Construction Industry Training Board, and up to now, it has only been possible to deliver the course face to face.  However, as Edwards’ explained, “older buildings must be treated differently from those of modern construction, we continually see problems caused by the introduction of inappropriate retrofitting solutions. This has now been recognised and we had great demand for the course. Due to covid-19, we have adapted and are now giving people the opportunity to gain this qualification without having to leave their home or workplace.”

In order to ensure that the retrofitting of dwellings is undertaken to a good standard the British Standards Institution, sponsored by the UK Government, have produced PAS 2035, the UK standard for retrofitting homes and this qualification is the one cited within it for work to traditional buildings. As traditional buildings make up over 1/3 of UK building stock this qualification Is critical to ensuring that millions of UK homes are retrofitted to the required standards.
