Constructing Excellence Newsletter

Welcome to the August edition of the Constructing Excellence Newsletter. We do hope you have had time to relax in this unusual August. We’ve been hard at work planning for a very busy Autumn. As you will see below we have a packed events programme for you and will be kicking off engagement on market enablers for the Construction Innovation Hub’s value toolkit in September. As ever please feel free to get in touch if you want to talk through anything. Alison Nicholl, Head of Constructing Excellence

News and insight:

Market enablers for the value toolkit
Constructing Excellence is delighted to be working with the Construction Innovation Hub and other key industry stakeholders on the market response element of the Value Toolkit.  The toolkit is a suite of tools to support faster, value-based decision-making across the investment lifecycle.  Over the coming months we will be consulting widely with key stakeholders across the industry to identify actual or perceived barriers of, and opportunities associated with, the adoption of value-driven delivery models

Value Toolkit: Hitting the ground running
Ron Lang, Impact Director for Value at the Construction Innovation Hub outlines the progress to date on the Hub’s Value Toolkit and the work that we are part of to create a suite of tools that will drive faster, better decision-making to deliver measurable value improvement.

Leaders learn to embrace complexity
Simon Flint, Chair of our Leader’s Breakfast Series outlines some of the ways in which leadership is changing during the current situation.  Dealing with VUCA, Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity and how it could pave the way for a new and enlightened style of leadership and a more forensic approach to risk.

MMC, Circular Economy and Whole Life
The Constructing Excellence Offsite Manufacturing & Technology Group met on Thursday 13 August to consider the circular economy, whole life approaches and MMC. As we move to a more sustainable and net zero carbon society we need to consider the whole life implications of our buildings and assets. As MMC makes it easier to design and construct buildings and assets, we take a look at the whole life aspects of this and how MMC can contribute to a circular economy.

Young people will walk away! Digital Drop in August 2020
In the second of our monthly Digital Drop Ins we heard from Generation 4 Change about how the younger generation are embracing digital, their frustrations with how the industry approaches digital and how they think we can improve our approach to digital adoption. From out-dated processes and systems, changing cultures and mindsets and a need to focus on more than just STEM this blog sets out some of the key issues we covered.
