CEWales Newsletter September 25
As the seasons shift dramatically—from sun-soaked afternoons to crisp autumn mornings—I hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy the summer and are stepping into autumn with renewed energy.
It’s been a dynamic and impactful few weeks at CEWales. We've been deeply involved in a wide range of initiatives, from supporting Welsh Government’s Sustainable Communities for Learning workshops in developing social value benchmarks and post-occupancy evaluations, to collating and representing the impacts of NRW’s recent guidance on marine nitrates, which has delayed/paused schemes in Carmarthenshire, Swansea and Pembrokeshire in Special Areas of Conservation (more on that in a separate article). Our voice was heard at the Welsh Procurement Alliance’s New Homes Framework launch, where we highlighted the importance of Alliance Contracting and the Gold Standard.
We have also been working closely with CITB to advance competence and building safety skills and training, and we had the privilege of speaking at the Mastering Diversity Conference at the Royal College of Music and Drama an inspiring event that brought together hundreds from across the DEI community in Wales. Sharing the panel with Browne Jacobson, Chambers Wales, and FinTech Wales was a true highlight.
Our team facilitated two workshops to consult on Built Environment priorities, helping shape the future Welsh Government sectoral mission statement. We also joined a roundtable with business leaders, Cardiff University, and Cardiff Business Club to explore ways to support regional economic growth.
This week we supported and attended G4C Wales’ Heritage Bitesize event and attended an insightful presentation and site visit to the CEW Award-winning Prince Charles Hospital Retrofit project in Merthyr, delivered by Tilbury Douglas. A great opportunity to see best practice in action and learn more about the challenges and innovations behind this award-winning refurbishment.
Don’t forget to book your place at the G4C Wales Awards on 16th October this promises to be a really good evening showcasing the young professionals within the Welsh built environment details can be found here
And that’s not all we have been busy behind the scenes, preparing for a new website which we hope to launch soon and show you at our members meeting on 12th November, as well as engaging with our members Kier, Willmott Dixon, Encon, Scape the CEWales Board, and the CLAW Leadership Board.
Thank you for being part of our journey. Let’s keep building a better Wales together.
