CEW Award Winners 2019

Now, more than ever, Wales needs to improve its built environment to construct a legacy for future generations. This was a core theme of the night. There were 520 members of the Welsh construction community who applauded the 14 winners and three highly commended organisations and projects across the 12 categories – each award reinforcing the values of best practice, collaborative working and sustainable development.

The CEW Awards are a true benchmark for the success of what you do in your organisations and the principles of Rethinking Construction that the CEWales team has been championing for many years. All the entries, and particularly the winners, are evidence that best practice, collaboration and integrated team working achieves the best results possible.

This year, Costain were again the headline sponsor. Without them and the commitment of regular supporters Kier, SEWSCAP, CLAW, the Best Practice Clubs, CIOB, CECA, CITB the events would not be the highlight of the Welsh construction calendar. This time, new to the CEW Awards were sponsors Hugh James, North Wales Partnership, South West Wales Regional Contractors Framework and Blake Morgan.

Best practice works and the CEW Awards offer the proof. Since 2006, the projects and organisations we celebrate have delivered community benefits ranging from support for more than 300 charities, to 1,500 school placements and coordinating around 10,000 hours of volunteering. Around 70% of all spend has remained inside Wales and £1bn spent within 20 miles of CE Wales projects.

The awards offer clear evidence that the Rethinking Construction agenda works. It shows beyond doubt that collaboration, honesty and a focus on value deliver community benefits, creates jobs, improves the leadership and development of people and helps build a legacy for our future generations. Rethinking Construction maps out the answers – it is how we will construct for the future and deliver on the goals outlined in the Well-being of the Future Generations Act.

We could not do any of this work and organise such a successful event as the CEW Awards without the support of our stakeholders, the outstanding quality of entries – more than ever this year – and the investment of time by our judges and sponsors. We are hugely grateful to all our sponsors and judges.
