Latest update from CE Wales!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Constructing Excellence in Wales! In theory, we are all winding down now for the season. But, whilst we are celebrating or making plans its worth considering that there will be many organisations with teams immersed in important tenders or doing special project work on site or are running any possessions over the holidays.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from CE Wales!
In theory, we are all winding down now for the season. But, whilst we are celebrating or making plans its worth considering that there will be many organisations with teams immersed in important tenders or doing special project work on site or are running any possessions over the holidays. Nevertheless, it is a good time to reflect briefly on 2018 and look ahead for the next twelve months.

CE Wales has had a mixed year. But the change in funding from Welsh Government means that as a membership body we can now campaign more loudly than ever about the merits of best practice and collaborative working. And the results of our dedication and resolve were evident last week.

Celebrating Excellence at the Senedd
At an event to celebrate excellence in Welsh construction at the Senedd on Thursday, 14th  December, Wales confirmed its status as a construction centre of excellence with our 5 winners from the National Constructing Excellence Awards displayed alongside their fellow winners from July’s CE Wales Awards and our G4C winners.

It was 100% clear that what we are advocating is the right thing. Welsh construction is a vital element in the country’s economy and by applying best practice principles of collaboration and team working great projects can be delivered on time, in budget and add value to the communities in which they serve.

CE Wales Awards 2019
The thirteenth CE Wales awards have been announced.

It is the most significant celebration of best practice in Wales and the only event of its kind that connects every single element of construction working towards a built environment fit for future generations. So, now is the time to start planning how you will win one of the coveted awards!

Welsh Construction and the Future Generations Act
We need to carry on with our focus upon best practice, but to really add value, Welsh construction must learn how everything it does is connected to the Future Generation Wales Act and its core targets.

This is exactly what we have been doing. In December we ran two workshops in Cardiff and Llandudno to engage with industry stakeholders and challenge the industry on how construction can align with the FGA.

On 24th January we will run a headline event in Cardiff to report back and outline actions and recommendations, Sophie Howe, Future Generations Commissioner for Wales will be our keynote speaker. The work will not end there. Our goal is to partner with the FGC and deliver a product for our members and stakeholders to use so that they can measure their respective construction activities against the FGA targets.

There is also a strong link in this work for G4C Wales, our generation for change. Let’s not forget we’re building for the future and the G4C team will play an important part in delivering the FGC agenda. We are holding an event on 10th January in Cardiff for G4C members to develop a Framework to assist/enable the delivery of the Future Generations Act, to book your place click here

New board, new CE Wales, same direction?
CE Wales has a new board and a new office*, but should we take the same direction?

We are working hard to be the independent voice of the construction industry and CE Wales is now a membership body. That means we need to know what you want CE Wales to do. We need to drill down into the detail before we set up research projects, events, seminars and publish challenging editorial. So, we are seeking direction from our members (and other stakeholders) and would be grateful if you could complete this short survey to help us prioritise and plan as a new membership body to deliver real change and build a legacy for future generations in Wales.
