Encon Construction CE National Award Winners

Welsh construction stood out again as one of the best examples of best practice in the industry in the 14th National Constructing Excellence Awards for 2020 held last Friday (29 January).

The National CE Awards provide a very special showcase of excellence in the built environment across England and Wales, bringing together the eight regional winners in each of fourteen categories to celebrate the very best of the best. This time almost 300 people tuned in to the awards webinar.

This time around Wales had one winner and two highly commended – but the Welsh winner, Encon, represents the backbone of the construction sector, the SMEs.

Encon Construction is an SME civil engineering & construction business founded in 2003 working as a main/principal contractor on projects ranging from £250,000 to £10,000,000. It’s been a champion of best practice for some time and in the 2020 CEW Awards also came away as winner of the People category. It’s continued growth, financial stability and adaptability is underscored by how it works: providing secure employment for employees in wales and emphasising diversity and inclusion – particularly through its Career Changers – Women in Construction Project. It was great to see Antonia John, Business Development & CSR Manager live on the webinar to receive the award and thrilled with their win.

Our two highly commended winners in Wales were for the Innovation Award – Rightsizing : Slim Down and start up, two new housing schemes in Monmouthshire and for the Offsite Award – The Grange University Hospital.

Constructing Excellence continues is more relevant than ever and the awards programme across the UK plays an important role to recognise and inspire high performance in the sector. They paint an impressive picture of excellence and continued improvement right across the country.

So, please congratulate our Welsh national winners but think ahead to the 2021 CEW Awards – your route to national best practice and a chance to shine in Wales. Details of the awards and categories are online now and we are hosting an event to launch the 2021 Awards process on 10 February.
