Award winning Prince Charles Hospital Site Visit - 10th July
The redevelopment of the award winning Prince Charles Hospital combines retrofit, refurbishment, and new construction within a live acute hospital site. Led by Tilbury Douglas, the original builders of the hospital in 1972, this nine-year, multi-phased programme is transforming PCH into a modern, state-of-the-art healthcare facility, significantly enhancing patient and staff experience.
The project involves extensive works across various departments, including Pathology, Outpatients, Endoscopy, Maxillofacial, Oncology, Theatres, Radiology and Critical Care. To support these departments, large rooftop plantrooms are being constructed, alongside critical infrastructure upgrades and improved car parking facilities. With earlier phases 1A and 1B now successfully completed, they are currently progressing through the final two sections of Phase 2.
A key component of the project involves one of the UK’s largest live asbestos removal operations. Asbestos removal and remediation were essential to facilitate the major expansion, refurbishment and upgrading works, ensuring the building meets the latest fire, health, and safety standards.
