The Greater Bargoed Community Regeneration Project required significant improvements to it accessibility and transportation links. It has developed from major investment and civil engineering projects and the most recent is the £ 28m Angel Way highway scheme. It consists of 2.2 kilometres of main carriageway with an additional 1 kilometre of cross valley links. It has 3 major structures as well as a significant reinforced earth retaining wall. This road will compliment proposed town centre enhancements and builds upon previous £ 14 m investment in the reclamation of the former Bargoed colliery. The presentation will discuss the background to the project and the need for the investment. It will go on to look at how the highway scheme in particular was taken forward and conclude with the outcomes and problems faced during the construction stage.
