CEW Awards 2010
Welsh construction celebrated its successes and its commitment to collaborative working on Friday, 2 July, at the Constructing Excellence in Wales Awards at the SWALEC Stadium.
Over 460 people were able to toast the very best of Welsh construction along with Jane Davidson, Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing as the ten awards were presented to the 2010 award winners. Teamwork, partnership and an emphasis on sustainability and managing waste were major themes as major undertakings such as the Airbus North Factory and landmark schemes like Newport High School shared the limelight with smaller projects and organisations such as GKR Maintenance & Building, Derwen and Dawnus.
The winners are-
- Integration & Collaborative Working – North Factory Project, Airbus Operations Ltd
- Leadership & People Development – GKR Maintenance & Building Co. Ltd
- SME Award – Derwen Aggregate
- Low/Zero Carbon Award – Mariners Quay
- Achievers Award – Simon Lander, Chandler KBS

“With increasing pressure on costs and a demand for more for less, now is the time to apply rethinking construction principles to Welsh construction,” said Milica Kitson, chief executive of CEW. “The example shown by our Award winners, particularly the winner of our Achiever Award, Simon Lander of Chandler KBS, clearly demonstrates that a collaborative approach to procurement and project management delivers great facilities, on time, on budget and that are sustainable too.
“Thank you to everyone that entered our 2010 Awards – the standard in each category was superb – and thank you to our sponsors for supporting such a splendid event. It really is a fantastic evening and a celebration of the great and good in Welsh construction.”
