Established in 1870, Andrew Scott Ltd (ASL) is one of the UK’s oldest independent construction companies. They are a respected name in the civil engineering and construction markets to both Public and Private sector customers. They are one of the largest Welsh construction companies, and their culture and way of working naturally supports the sustainable development of Wales with their business model based on regional and long-term employment, the use of local supply chains, investment in training and employment, direct delivery and the importance of the well-being of their staff and local communities.

One of their main business objectives is to develop and retain a highly skilled team to achieve their customers construction needs, delivering quality, innovation and best value. Their business operates at its best when their people are at their best – their people are the drivers behind their success. Therefore, people development is at the forefront of their business development strategy. They invest heavily in training and development, with over £85,000 spent on training in 2022. In addition to a large number of accredited and non-accredited training programmes, they are currently supporting;

  • 9 direct Apprentices

  • 8 staff studying towards NVQs

  • 3 staff studying towards HND/HNC

  • 2 Staff studying towards a BSc degree

  • 7 Graduate Engineering on the Further Learning Programme to obtain their ICE Accreditation 

ASL are also committed to tackling the skills shortage problem the construction industry faces by;

  • Raising awareness of the opportunities and career paths in construction to young people

  • Diversifying our workforce with proactive and inclusive recruitment

  • Collaborating with partners at industry events to raise awareness of the industry and promote diversity

  • Encouraging talent into our industry through work experience, Apprenticeships and training schemes

  • Delivering initiatives that provide positive impacts for communities, local economy and the local environment which helps promote a positive image of the industry and allows staff and suppliers to take part and improve their well-being

They hope to make their company, and in turn the wider industry, a more desirable place to work and start changing perceptions of the industry.
