Tribute to Andrew Wedlake

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our friend and colleague Andrew Wedlake, who sadly passed away on the 13th January. Andrew will be missed by so many of us across our industry. He was someone who was always generous with his time for people and the improvement of the industry.

Andrew was a highly experienced Chartered Engineer with over 30 years experience, starting his career as a Graduate Engineer for Monks, after graduating from Portsmouth University. For 12 years he rose through the ranks on site from Section Engineer, Senior Engineer and Site Agent working on a variety of complex civil engineering projects. He then moved on to several Design and Estimator roles for Skanska and Andrew Scott Ltd, before moving to Morrison Construction to work on the AMP frameworks. As Galliford Try took over Morrison Construction, Andrew led the Galliford Try Civil Engineering South Wales & West regional businesses. He successfully created and managed the regional team to deliver many engineering and infrastructure projects across the region. After 15 years with Galliford Try, Andrew moved on to several different senior roles at Contract Services, Centregreat and his most recent role Regional Manager for Wales and West for Enable Infrastructure where he successfully established a new regional office.

Throughout his career he formed excellent relationships with the people he worked with, making lifelong friends across the industry. He was also a true believer in sharing best practice. Andrew gave his time to industry groups and initiatives, including Constructing Excellence in Wales and CECA Wales. Andrew was a board member of CEWales for 11 years, working closely with the team to bring people together, share best practice and provide a forum for people to build relationships. Andrew was also heavily involved in many of the CEW Awards acting as a judge for many years.

Our thoughts are with Cathy and the rest of Andrew’s family at this sad time.
