On Friday 19th August 2016 Constructing Excellence entered our next exciting phase when the agreement to merge with BRE under the BRE Trust was signed.

I am incredibly grateful to the Chairman Murray Rowden and other Statutory Directors Milica Kitson OBE and Peter Woolliscroft for their vision and hands-on support to deliver this. Also to our Board of Management and all our National Members, Regional Centres and Clubs who have overwhelmingly welcomed the move as opening up investment and securing the sustainability of a movement for which so many of us have worked and supported for some 20 years. More on the details of the merger below, and other aspects will develop over the next few weeks and months.

Our focus has been on creating a stronger and more influential organisation which leads the drive to improve our industry. We are now embarked on a crucial transition phase in which we will deliver some new early benefits quickly for National Members, as well as laying the foundations for major developments such as the e-learning platform, data platform and the relaunched clients group. My early career was spent at BRE as a building physicist, and the organisation has changed hugely since I left in 1995, but it has been great to bump into old friends and many familiar faces who have been hugely welcoming since the news broke last week. I must particularly thank those in the BRE team who worked with us to agree the merger – genuinely collaborative people, and a pleasure to deal with. The Watford campus is an impressive science park, and I hope Members will take the opportunity to attend the next Members' Forum on 12th October, or come and see us at a different time. Full details of the Members' Forum will follow, but email colm.quinn@constructingexcellence.org.uk to register your interest. Here's to a great future!
