Constructing Excellence/BRE Merger

Whether you’re working away from site, in the office, onsite somewhere or on holiday you might have seen the news reported in Building magazine last week about the merger of Constructing Excellence with BRE.

Whether you’re working away from site, in the office, onsite somewhere or on holiday you might have seen the news reported in Building magazine last week about the merger of Constructing Excellence with BRE.

The official press statement from BRE and Constructing Excellence gives a lot more detail – please read it over.

The arrangement makes huge sense for both organisations, financially, operationally but more importantly, in terms of driving the ongoing change agenda in UK construction and pursuit of collaborative working and whole life value in all of our projects.

However, it is important for you to be clear that CEW will not be affected in any way by this merger. CEW is a separate legal entity so we remain outside of this merger and we retain our brand.  This is also the case for all Constructing Excellence Regional Centres around the country as they too are separate legal entities.

Everyone involved in this merger sees it as a positive move for the organisations involved and for the industry. CEW will continue to work closely with Constructing Excellence and, as we already have an excellent working relationship with BRE Wales, will look at where and how we can benefit from the merger.

The deal will allow Constructing Excellence to achieve a step-change in the level of investment in, and impact of, its activities on behalf of the membership. The merger secures the future of the brand, our mission and our movement, and the financial sustainability of Constructing Excellence. It also achieves the long-term ambition of establishing a Constructing Excellence Foundation to raise and leverage funds and support research and education for the benefit of our members and the sector as a whole.

Don Ward, Chief Executive of Constructing Excellence said:

“Members and other stakeholders of Constructing Excellence have long held an exciting vision and dynamic ambitions, which we have been constrained from fully realising by our size and resourcing. Joining with BRE gives us access to the resources to realise our ambition and access to new markets.

“By merging with BRE we secure the stable base that we require to develop our membership, best practice guidance, publications, benchmarking and training services for the UK and international networks. It means that we can plan for the future with a new level of vision and confidence, and devote our energies to member content, thought leadership and sector influence. BRE will maintain the distinctive Constructing Excellence brands and develop our network, and add critical capacity in developing digital tools, delivering training and events and growing our international reach.”
