Wood Knowledge Wales with BRE have been supporting Carmarthenshire County Council in their development of an educational project in Carmarthenshire which is looking to deliver a very low energy building while creating inspiring spaces for the end users.

The team is investigating what it takes to deliver a school to the Passivhaus Standard – arguably the most challenging energy performance standard in Europe, which delivers significant energy savings and occupant benefits compared to National regulatory standards.

Additionally, the scheme will aim to use local materials, suppliers and contractors, thus helping develop capacity in the region for wider-scale delivery, since the Council have an ongoing planned school building programme in coming years.

This event will showcase the early development of the project and what it means to deliver Passivhaus in a Welsh context, while comparing with other recent pioneering schemes of a similar nature from around the UK. It will also highlight how the Welsh timber supply chain in particular could contribute to the delivery of such schemes.
