2010 Awards

Last summer collaboration, teamwork and the principles of rethinking construction were the winners at the Award winners 2010 brochure as major projects such as Airbus’ North Factory and Newport High School demonstrated that construction benefits from an integrated team approach to procurement and project management.

All nine award winners demonstrated why the Welsh built environment is still one of the most important areas of the country’s economy despite current conditions.  This status was confirmed in November when Welsh Health Estates and GKR Maintenance & Building secured two out of the ten honours available at the National Constructing Excellence Awards and Simon Lander, of ChandlerKBS was made highly commended in the Achiever Award.

The CEW Awards is now a central part of the built environment calendar in Wales.  It is a real celebration of what commitment to a collaborative approach to procurement and project management can deliver.  Whether it was for attaining low/zero carbon targets at Mariner’s Quay, people development within GKR or managing waste at Swansea Quadrant Interchange, every aspect of the industry was represented.

There are nine CEW Award categories, including SME and Achiever Award.  Each of them gives an opportunity for every part of the Welsh built environment to demonstrate their achievements and promote the ideals of collaborative working and best practice.  You can get a flavour of this from the quality of the shortlisted candidates .

Eira Rowe, director of operations and events at Constructing Excellence in Wales said:

“Every time we hold the CEW Awards the industry as a whole is the winner.  But the award winners on the night are the best of the best and proof that the collaborative approach to the procurement and management of projects delivers outstanding performance and results every time.  It is a shining example for the rest of construction to follow.  Now is the time for everyone to learn from their success as we need to improve our procurement methods and measure performance more than ever.  Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to our sponsors and to everyone that attended such a great evening.”

Thank you again to everyone who entered those that attended the presentations and sponsored the Awards.  We look forward to exciting entries and a successful event later in 2011.
