2009 Awards
CEW Awards 2009
In September over 400 guests witnessed Cardiff Central Library, Newport High School and Mark Adams of Rhondda Cynon Taf steal the limelight at the 2009 CEW Awards at Cardiff City Stadium, winning project of the year, the new waste minimisation category and achiever of the year. But all ten award winners demonstrated why the Welsh built environment is still one of the most important areas of the country’s economy despite current conditions. Details of all the award winning projects are in the Award winners brochure 2009.
Wales is a great example to the rest of the UK and many of our 2007 winners and 2008 winners received recognition at a UK wide level when they competed at the national awards with other UK regional winners. This year was no different as three of our category winners went on to win the respective National CE Award in November. Our congratulations go to Laing O’Rourke’s Wales & West team for winning the H&S Award; Lawson Construction for the SME Award and Monmouthshire CC & Willmott Dixon for winning the Integration & Collaborative Working category.
“If Wales is going to build itself out of the recession then we should look no further than the examples provided by these organisations,” commented Milica Kitson, chief executive of CEW. “But, the spirit of collaboration was the real winner of our awards and it is team work that will make a success of our economy.”
No matter what the nature of the scheme, the specific details of the award criteria or the role of the client – working together was a constant factor and was proven repeatedly to deliver outstanding results. From Lawson Construction at the small and medium sized end of the industry to Willmott Dixon and Laing O’Rourke, every aspect of the industry was represented and had the chance to demonstrate their achievements and promote the ideals of collaborative working and best practice.
The shortlisted submissions demonstrated the diverse nature of the industry and projects in Wales, and that they come from all four corners.
The evening was attended by over 400 guests and and was generously supported by our sponsors.
We look forward to the 2010 awards building on the success of 2009.
